Born in China, Shen Chen is a New York based artist. He started his art training and practicing when he was in high school. He spent five years (1973-1978) study art in Shanghai Art College and four years (1978-1982) majoring fine art and set design at Shanghai Academy of Theater where he received his BFA. In late 1982 he moved to Beijing for next six years and then went for his art in residence in Skowhegan in 1988. The same year he received an exchange student fellowship from Studio School and stayed in New York briefly. From 1989 to1990 he continued his studying in Boston University and obtained his FMA. In 1991, he moved to New York since then.
Since he made his first solo show in 1984 at China Journalist Society in Beijing, he continuously had solo shows at many different venues around world. That including in China National Museum of Art, Beijing Gallery, Ancient Observatory Gallery, Roma Academy of Fine Arts, Today Art Museum, Nantong Museum of Art, San Shang Museum of Contemporary Art, Shanghai University Arts Center and Cynthia Reeves Contemporary Art. His works were also shown at Shanghai Museum of art, Cristal Art Foundation, Queens Museum of Art, Zhendai Museum of Modern Art, HanXiangning Museum of Contemporary Arts, Ningbo Museum of Art, Xi Hu Art Museum, Doulun Museum of Modern Art, Museum of Chinese in America, Word Art foundation, Singer museum of Art, etc.
