French sculptor, Antoinette Rozan, was born in Paris in 1970. She currently lives and works in Hong Kong.

Rozan was raised among a long-lasting tradition of artists within her family, including painters, engravers, and architects. She represents the fifth generation of practicing artists in her lineage. The artist was particularly influenced by both her grandfathers, one a passionate art collector and the other a chief architect of historical French monuments. He was also in charge of the restoration project for the Chateaux de la Loire.

Upon completion of her studies in France, Rozan moved to Hong Kong, where she worked for Cartier from 1994 to 1997. She then returned to Paris and discovered her abilities as a sculptor. Rozan developed a great interest in the theories of artistic expression through anatomy and the body.

Since 2001, she has dedicated herself and become entrenched in the practice of sculpture. She comments, “The day I touched clay, I felt alive…I discovered a rare and precious means of expressing my deep-rooted passion for life.” Rozan has since perfected her sculpting by learning from the likes of Philippe Chazot and Berrit Hilde.

In 2006, Rozan returned to Hong Kong and began teaching sculpture. She founded “Terre_Happy”, a program which is based on the practices of art-therapy. The aim of this method is to work towards a better understanding of the self through sculpture and artistic dialogue.

The artist’s sculptures reflect strong emotions and speak to the sheer essence of life: “The sculptures I make out of clay are related to my personal journey into my feelings and emotions. The ones I make out of plaster (e.g. Elastic, Calligraphist, or Friend-ships) reflect a free spirit.”
